I see that the Pope is at it again, now in West Africa claiming that condoms don't help in the battle against aids. The reactions to this have been global. The NY Times swiftly repudiated this nonsense with a lead editorial.

As I've mentioned before, Brazil -- nominally the most Catholic country in the world -- has a different approach, giving away billions of condoms (yes, including high schools) and even funding a project in the Chico Mendes Extractive Reserve of producing natural latex ones. Condoms for conservation were chosen by DVICE, a high tech website offering suggestions for "green living", as #4 in their list of sustainability ideas.

Brazil is now the world's largest buyer and distributor of condoms.
