VI Encounter for the New Horizon

SAUDADES
Farewells can be hard, especially after sharing so much joy.
But it is also special to have that connection in the heart that only a longing for loved ones or missing one's homeland brings.
There's no good word for this in English -- being nostalgic or homesick doesn't quite catch the depth of feeling.
But the Portuguese word, saudade -- a missing or longing from deep in the heart -- really captures it. When Brazilians come back together they say that they are "killing the saudade." That's why everyone is already thinking about and making plans for the next festival with the family and friends of Fortaleza.
See you next year (or sooner).
