FINDING A BALANCE
The key, it seems to me, is that is that people here are trying to serve their needs in place rather than to be dependent on distant places.
Not to be overly romantic though, it's important to note that it's always been a great struggle to keep the coming generations in place once they have become curious about the bells and whistles of faraway and highly urbanized places and hard to avoid an over-emphasis on commodification for cash.
